EPINSS was founded in 1986 in response to an acute lack of services, supports, and programs available for individuals re-entering the community upon discharge from a psychiatric hospital setting. EPINSS has grown over time and we currently have 155 beds in 4 programs and operate out of 5 buildings.
Included within the care programs is a 13-bed secure unit (SL4D) for people with elopement risks, 84 designated supportive living (SL4) beds, 50 wellness integrated support home (WISH) beds, and an 8-bed transitional program.
Edmonton People in Need Shelter Society provides a safe environment for its clients and staff by fostering a culture of independence, choice, and respect. Using a similar philosophy, EPINSS strives to provide a learning environment for the team by encouraging participation in decision-making.
Edmonton People in Need Shelter Society acknowledges that we operate on Treaty 6 and Metis Nation North Saskatchewan River Territory, a traditional gathering place for many First Nations. We respect the histories, languages, and cultures of these peoples who enrich our community. We continue to explore our relationship to the land and reflect on what it means to be Treaty people.
